Even though nine minutes worth of Death Stranding's trailer did a traditional Hideo Kojima thing, i.e. tell us about the game without telling us about it, it's a gorgeous one. Thanks to the website though, we now have more info and images.
According to the website, the game takes place in the near future, where strange explosions set off supernatural events called Death Stranding.
"With spectral creatures plaguing the landscape, and the planet on the verge of a mass extinction, it's up to Sam Bridges to journey across the ravaged wasteland and save mankind from impending annihilation", the dev wrote.
As the trailer suggested, players will be traversing the landscape, trying to "reunite a broken nation", even though Norman Reedus' character in the trailer has somewhat different views.
Armed with a stack of cargo, Death Stranding players will encounter difficulties on their way, be they bandits, whom you can spot in the trailer, natural obstacles or sheer weight.
Overall, there seems to be plenty of walking and/or driving in Death Stranding, as well as some time travelling gimmicks, what with the World War I sequences and all.
As was suggested from the start, death is not the end in Death Stranding, and players will be transported to the "upside-down realm", from where they'll have to find their way back.
"Choose your combat methods carefully, as killing your foe is almost never the solution - and every death carries a consequence", Kojima Productions wrote.
Death Stranding will not have traditional multiplayer but rather "asynchronous online gameplay", where you can help others without actually playing with them. You'll be able to send supplies, share safe houses and walk in others' footsteps.
Kojima confirmed that Death Stranding launches on 08 November 2019, as a PS4 exclusive of course.
Regardless of whether you're a Kojima fan or not, there's no doubt that the trailer visuals are truly splendid, and Death Stranding boasts the sort of mo-cap that's occasionally indiscernible from the real thing.
