Niantic have announced a new feature dubbed the Adventure Sync coming to their Pokemon-collecting addiction of a game Pokemon GO, which will be recording your footsteps in the background and integrate with similar apps on iOS and Android.

The company announced on their website that Adventure Sync is yet another indicator of Niantic's commitment to activity and exploration, which will be even easier with the new feature. As you're probably well aware, hatching Pokemon GO eggs requires walking a certain distance with the game active, so Adventure Sync is quite the boost.

Moreover, the feature will integrate with HealthKit and Google Fit, Apple and Google's respective health and fitness applications. If your device supports them, Adventure Sync will be able to provide Pokemon GO players with weekly summaries of distance travelled, calories burned, number of footsteps, etc.

Niantic also shared some interesting statistics, revealing that Pokemon GO trainers have walked an average of 53 per cent more in 2018 than they did in 2017. A recent survey showed that a large majority of Pokemon GO players were compelled to walk more and go outdoors, while 47 per cent felt their physical activity levels increased since they started playing.

Adventure Sync will not only make playing Pokemon GO easier - it will also enable Niantic to organise weekly milestones that will reward trainers who crack them, something the company is already planning on. It's almost as if Pokemon trainers are getting their personal trainers, no?

The company said that while Pokemon GO may be their first game to use Adventure Sync, it's certainly not going to be the last as they plan to roll it out for the rest of their offer as well. That means you can expect Ingress and the upcoming Harry Potter: Wizards Unite to get and come with Adventure Sync, respectively.

Adventure Sync is likely to fit in like a glove with the latest round of Pokemon GO changes, where Niantic tweaked the effects of weather on the frequency of Pokemon sightings as well as increased the likelihood of them appearing in parks and nature reserves.
