Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 might get a mode similar to Fornite and PUBG's battle royale. Activision are ''a company quick to follow lucrative trends'' according to a financial officer, hinting they may develop something similar.
Battle Royale is a worldwide gaming phenomenon that is bringing success to pretty much anyone who tries their hand in it. The most successful examples are of course PUBG, which racked up players at a blinding speed and Fortnite, which is super busy overtaking PUBG while you are reading this. All it took was vastly superior support from Fortnite's developers and right now the game is ruling gaming's most popular streaming site, Twitch.
Info coming from an investment firm Oppenheimer Research on a meeting they attended with Activision suggests the publisher might give battle royale a shot. The publisher's staff mentioned the company's behaviour involved following up on recent trends and battle royale is exactly the top contestant at the moment.
Activision have only removed Call of Duty Black Ops 4's veil a few days ago and the game should be coming out on 12 October 2018, but adding a new game mode may not be likely within the six months left until the game's release. That is unless the mode was added beforehand but this is all speculation at this point.
Every Call of Duty title has the usual components already - singleplayer, multiplayer and zombie modes. Post release DLC is also a tradition for Activision and it's not excluded that a piece of DLC could get dropped in favour of adding a battle royale mode to the game, as it would prove more profitable in the long and cost effective in the short run.
Other companies have taken a keen interest in the genre before, with Fear the Wolves and Mavericks set to make a reveal soon, and The Darwin Project is already in Early Access. If Activision have their minds set to keep the ''company quick to follow lucrative trends'' reputation, it is already high time for them to enter the battle royale market.
