World of Tanks is getting a solo and co-op campaign mode on consoles titled War Stories on 22 August 2017. All console versions of the game will receive an episodic mission system to re-enact historical battles or participate in fictional ones set up by the developers.

World of Tanks was always primarily a PC experience. The various console versions of the game are now getting some love too, with the addition of solo and co-op campaign game modes, aiming to re-enact well known historical battles or give players the opportunity to participate in fictional scenarios.

"As the first campaign series in the World of Tanks universe, War Stories allows us to bring a new narrative to the game and expand on our multiplayer experience with engaging single-player and online Coop content for our new and longtime tankers", was related in the announcement accompanying the update.

The update will contain two campaigns with three chapters each. Two additional sets of stories will follow the initial release, one of which takes place during a fictional invasion of Great Britain by Axis tanks, with the other one playing out in an scenario that resulted from a different resolution to the Cuban Missile Crisis from the actual historical one.

The narratives will be delivered with an animated comic strip and feature a specifically tailored for the occasion.

The update will launch on 22 August 2017, on Xbox 360, Xbox One and PlayStation 4. The beefed up versions of the latest console generation will also feature 4k support.

Looks like Wargaming figured out that their microtransaction milking model from PC doesn't quite work for consoles. Could paid PvE raid DLC mission packs be the future of World of Tanks on consoles?
