inXile Entertainment are now officially working on a remake or a remaster of sorts for the game that started the whole post-nuclear-apocalypse trend in gaming - Wasteland. The game came out 30 years ago, which makes the timing fitting.

Nothing says how long ago Wasteland came out like that logo stating it was published by EA, back when the company was actually beloved, as opposed to being branded the gaming world's devil in the modern times. This old era of gaming introduced several gems, with one of them being Wasteland, the game that would later inspire a few bright minds to make the first Fallout.

Microsoft recently acquired inXile Entertainment, which prompted some Wasteland fans to ponder what might be next for the studio, after they release Wasteland 3 for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. One fan, in particular, mentioned it would be a good time for a "full-blown Wasteland 1 remake" to which inXile that they are in fact working on a Wasteland remaster.

It is currently unclear what this remaster encompasses, so it's unknown whether it will just have prettier pictures while you're traipsing around the nuke-ravaged Arizona, or if it will make Wasteland a 3D isometric tactics game like its sequels.

A remaster usually implied just better textures and higher resolution support, but with the recent announcement of Warcraft 3 Reforged, remasters started looking more like rebuilt games that get modernized with better models, textures, visual and audio effects.

Hopefully, Wasteland remaster will get a treatment along those lines, but more importantly, let's hope it doesn't lose much depth that made it so popular and successful. It's not an everyday occurrence that 30-year-old games hold an 81 per cent user review score on .
