Riot Games updated Valorant once again and while the new patch brings major changes like a new agent and weapon overhaul, the devs offered more visual sense of progression through levelling as well.
Levelling in Valorant usually only brings interesting progression through battle passes and agent contracts but Riot folks are attempting to give some more incentive through portrait borders now.
The system was previously seen in Overwatch where the border gets more gilded the higher account level you achieve and it will work the same in Valorant.
There are currently five divisions that are based on every 100 levels and every division has tiers for every 20 levels. These tiers will have different gildings around the account level display. While noticeable when you focus on them, they do look alike so the only distinction everyone will be looking at is the level-based border.
Level divisions and their borders are as follows:
- Level 1-99 - Iron
- Level 100-199 - Bronze
- Level 200-299 - Silver
- Level 300-399 - Gold
- Level 400-499 - Platinum
Every level up will now happen after earning 5,000 Account Points, which is basically a fancy word for Experience. AP will be applied retroactively too so if you played a lot until patch 3.0, you will be quite a few levels ahead of others .
It remains to be seen if this addition will make players more invested in pumping their account numbers up but it's hard to imagine borders will play much of a role in a highly competitive game that has ranks based on player skill.
