Super Smash Bros. Ultimate boos Masahiro Sakurai confirmed in a weekly Famitsu column that Nintendo do not have any plans to add more DLC characters after the second fighter pass arrives.
Nintendo are looking to expand Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's fighter roster with the upcoming second season fighter DLC, which will include six new fighters. However, once this DLC arrives, Nintendo will not work on additional fighters for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
This has been confirmed by Smash Bros. head Masahiro Sakurai himself, in a weekly column for the Japanese video game magazine Famitsu. Thanks to a Twitter user PushDustin , who translated the column, we have the most interesting, Smash Bros-related bits.
Like already mentioned, six new fighters are set to expand the fighter roster but after that, there are no plans "so Smash Ultimate is almost finished". Furthermore, Sakurai confirmed that Nintendo decided which characters to add in the second fighter pass, not him.
As for the new Smash titles, Sakurai said that there are no plans for any future entries in the popular series at the moment. The publisher prefers to add content "little by little" and extend the life of Smash Ultimate.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate base game arrived with an all-time high of 76 characters and with the next batch of fighters, the roster will feature an impressive, 88 characters in total.
The identity of the upcoming characters is yet to be officially revealed. Some rumours suggested that Kingdom Hearts' Sora was considered but unfortunately, Disney Japan did not give the green light to Nintendo.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is available exclusively for Nintendo Switch.
