Donkey Kong Bananza launches July 17 for Switch 2 with local co-op, Challenge Course Ruins, DK Artist Mode, custom outfits, and more platforming surprises.

Donkey Kong Bananza is shaping up to be one of the most feature-rich entries in the series. The upcoming 3D platformer will be released on July 17, 2025 for Nintendo Switch 2, offering a variety of mechanics for solo and co-op players.

Along with its classic level design, Bananza has something new for fans to enjoy. The core mechanic of the game revolves around collecting Banadium Gems to level up Donkey Kong’s abilities (such as punching strength or sonar visibility), but there’s more to the game than meets the eye.

These Gems are scattered across the colorful overworld and can be earned through Challenge Course Ruins that offer time-based combat, mine cart sections, and side-scrolling laser navigation challenges.

Gamers can also trade in Banadium Chips (game currency) to acquire more Gems.Cosmetic customization is also present, with a variety of costumes for Donkey Kong and Pauline, which grant them unique buffs (e.g. longer sonar range or faster swimming).

The game offers aesthetic features like changeable fur colors, treasure maps to find specific items, and a Photo Mode for taking in-game screenshots.Bananza introduces full local co-op play, allowing a second player to control Pauline using only one Joy-Con 2.

Her blast voice and terrain-copying mechanic introduce strategic elements to the gameplay. The game also supports GameShare, which allows a second Switch 2 user to connect online, even if they do not own the game.

If that wasn’t enough, Nintendo is introducing DK Artist Mode, which lets gamers use mouse controls to sculpt, paint, and light their own 3D models, giving players another way to experience the game.

From gem hunting to advanced co-op play to creative freedom, Donkey Kong Bananza is much more than your average platformer.
