Spiders, the developers behind Greedfall, have revealed the gameplay for Steelrising, their upcoming RPG that is set in an alternate history.
Steelrising is still about half a year away from release but those who are anticipating the game can already take a look at what it plays like. If you played Greedfall, you can certainly get similar vibes in the trailer, seen below, along with a pinch of the souls-like subgenre.
If you're wondering about the art direction or the clockwork constructs everywhere, it has to do with the setting of the game. Namely, Steelrising is set in an alternate version of 1789, where the French Revolution didn't go the same way it did in our world.
Louis XVI didn't lose his head in the first half of the decade that marked the revolution. Instead, he suppressed it in a brutal manner at the very beginning, by utilising his mechanical army. His chief engineer seems to have recognised the error of his ways and created Aegis, a more advanced automaton that is going to take on the king's army. That's you, the player.
The gameplay video shows both the regular enemies Aegis gets to face as well as what we can expect to see in a boss fight. Additionally, there is a glimpse into the progression system and the alteration of the automaton's tools, which is basically the gear progression you would see in other games.
Steelrising is due for release on September 8, 2022, on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
