GSC Game World seems to have relented after overwhelmingly negative feedback on their announcement of including NFTs in Stalker 2 and they have now been cancelled.
Stalker 2 is easily one of the most anticipated games that is coming in the near future, which all but guarantees profit for the developers. Still, if they were to introduce another way of funding the game, the gaming community wouldn't be opposed to the idea. After all, one of the two best games that graced the gaming industry in 2021 was made possible through crowdfunding.
That said, almost everyone involved in gaming hates even the mention of NFTs. Therefore, when GSC announced Stalker 2 would have them , it wasn't a surprise people hated the decision.
Thankfully, a few days of intense pressure from the fans resulted in GSC cancelling the integration of NFTs into the game. Normally, someone could make an argument that NFTs could be useful in some way but all the NFT features GSC proposed for Stalker 2 were redundant.
For example, going with the whole metaverse idea of incorporating fans into Stalker 2 as NPCs could easily be done without involving NFTs at all. Crowdfunded games have been doing this for years and you would be hard-pressed to find people who oppose this donation incentive.
Either way, Stalker 2 is NFT-free for the time being and only time will tell whether this decision will be permanent.
