Sony have officially announced a new brand that launches with PlayStation 5 and is meant to unify the company's in-house development under the PlayStation Studios umbrella.
The company also rolled out the brief logo trailer that will play at the start of PlayStation Studios games, which you can check out above.
The trailer definitely looks sleek and it does a great job at pointing users towards some masterpieces made by Sony in the years past. Uncharted, Horizon: Zero Dawn and The Last of Us all made their way into the trailer, rightfully so.
Sony Interactive Entertainment Worldwide Studios doesn't exactly roll off the tongue and the PlayStation Studios brand is meant to represent the quality we've come to expect from them.
"We have been thinking about how we unite all of these great games under one brand, and really the purpose of that is to make the consumer understand that, when they see this brand, they're getting ready for a robust, innovative, deep experience that they've come to expect from games coming from PlayStation", Sony said.
The intro video is likely to evolve with the rest of PlayStation Studios, so expect variations tailored to specific games. Other than that though, there will be no functional changes to Sony's game development.
"We've never had any problem getting people to play these games. They're usually critically acclaimed, award-winning franchises that are games of the year, but for the average consumer it's not always clear what games come directly from our Worldwide Studios", the company stated.
With Microsoft ramping up their development for Xbox Series X and snapping up a bunch of studios under the Xbox Games Studios label, establishing PlayStation Studios was probably a wise move. Now bring on the PS5.
