God of War has officially turned one year old today and to mark this special occasion, Sony will soon be releasing a full-length feature documentary called Raising Kratos, which will take the fans through the entire development process.

"This full-length feature documentary, coming very soon to PlayStation YouTube, is an exploration into the massive undertaking it took to change the course of the God of War franchise", the company wrote.

Raising Kratos has been pieced together from more than 400 hours of footage taken over the course of God of War's development, and Sony claim it's a story rooted family, sacrifice, struggle and doubt.

"The ultimate goal was to go beyond a 'making of' piece and dig deeper into the experiences of those who spend relentless time and effort into making something great. All creative endeavours, especially those of this magnitude, require an incredible amount of dedication and focus that constantly toe the fine line that separates both success and failure", the wrote.

Reinventing God of War was no easy task, of course, and Sony's Santa Monica studio had to make game-changing decisions before they even started with actual work.

Up until 2018, buying a God of War game meant you're looking for an action game with hours and hours of blood-soaked fun. The old Kratos was never about intricate storytelling - it's about an enraged deity killer on a murder rampage, and we loved every second of it.

In spite of some initial friction, which was notable for those ridiculous hashtags like #NotMyGodOfWar, Barlog and Co set out to revitalise the franchise and make sure that Kratos, much like the studio, grows into something more than just a fun action game.

"Nothing has changed cynically or under pressure or just willy-nilly. All of us put a lot of heart and soul into this game, and the DNA of what this franchise is still pumps through the blood of this game", Barlog said at .

Thankfully, it all culminated in Barlog's over God of War's review scores, which showed just how high the stakes were and how emotionally invested the entire team was.
