As part of their annual Earth Day cleanup event, Niantic promised Pokemon GO trainers rewards if they reached certain milestones and they have, so it's time to collect. As you can see, Shiny Diglett is debuting but Sandshrew is there too.
This is the second time Niantic have taken on the Earth Day cleanup initiatives and the second time they teamed up with Playmob on doing so, hoping to beat last year's results.
Niantic said that if 2,000 players took part in locally organised Earth Day cleanups, they'd make ground-type Pokemon appear more frequently.
Shiny Diglett and Ground-type Pokemon were the reward for 5,000 players attending, while 7,000 meant that Groudon will be appearing in Raids, along with double the Stardust and Catch Candy for Pokemon appearing in the event.
Impressively enough, PokemonGO not only responded in force, they more than doubled Niantic's goals, and they're pretty stoked about it, deservedly so.
"Over 14,800 Ingress & PokemonGO players participated in EarthDay cleanups around the world over the past 3 weeks. What an incredible turnout! As a result of this hard work, amazing in-game rewards will soon be available in both games", the dev tweeted.
All the aforementioned Earth Day rewards will be available to PokemonGO trainers until 02 May 2019.
Niantic's event back in 2018 involved "68 events and countless NGOs", with as much 6.5 tons of garbage removed, which has to be the shiniest, no pun intended, example of games being used for more than just entertainment.
Starting on 26 April 2019, at 1pm PDT / GMT -7, Turtwig, Chimchar, Piplup, Bonsly, "and many more" will be hatching from 2km Eggs.
Niantic said Cubone, Combee, Buizel, Glameow, Bronzor, Skorupi, Croagunk and others will hatch from 5km eggs, while 10km ones will hatch Mawile, Absol, Shinx, Cranidos, Shieldon, Riolu and more.
