Exodus is getting a new gameplay trailer at The Game Awards next week, potentially revealing a proper release date for the highly anticipated sci-fi RPG. Developer Archetype Entertainment, founded by former BioWare veterans, teased the reveal via social media with cryptic messaging: "Gate alignment stable... Transit window locked: T-minus 7 days." with The Game Awards hashtag.
What we know about Exodus
The game casts players as Jun Aslan, a salvager-turned-Traveller hunting ancient Celestial Remnants across the galaxy. One of the key things that Exodus promises is the time dilation mechanics, which can dramatically change worlds based on your prolonged absence, with consequences rippling across generations. An interesting concept, very reminiscent of what we've seen in Christopher Nolan's film Interstellar.
Combat combines the classic over-the-shoulder shooting with Gauntlet abilities powered by fused Remnant technology, supported by companion synergies, which will instantly remind you of Mass Effect's squad-based tactics. Enemies range from monstrous creatures to rival human Dynasties and Celestials, which are the evolved descendants of humanity, threatening civilisation's survival.
The premise blends cosmic mystery with personal stakes, exploring themes of legacy, consequence, and humanity's fractured future amongst the stars. Whether that translates to a solid narrative depth or just something we've seen in a bunch of other sci-fi games won't be clear until we get to try it out for ourselves.
Strong Mass Effect vibes
One thing that is obviously evident is that Exodus wears its BioWare DNA proudly. Archetype's founding team includes Mass Effect veterans, and the game's setup, which consists of exploring alien worlds, managing crew relationships, and making choices with long-term consequences, directly evokes BioWare's beloved space opera trilogy.
That is certainly reassuring for fans craving classic BioWare RPG design, but it will depend a lot on the execution. Previous reveals showcased mostly polished cinematic presentation and interesting world-building, but it wasn't the AAA quality that fans usually expect from such games. Still, it's a long way till release, so there's plenty of time for additional visual polish and tweaks.
Game Awards reveal and release window
The December 11th trailer could finally provide a concrete 2026 release date. Exodus has maintained "2026" as its launch window without committing to quarters or specific months.
Game Awards reveals typically accompany major announcements such as release dates, platform details, and collector's editions, so expect more than just flashy gameplay footage. Whether Archetype commits to early 2026, late 2026, or hedges with "when it's ready" will signal their confidence in current development progress.
For now, it's confirmation that one of 2026's most anticipated RPGs gets proper spotlight next week. Whether it lives up to Mass Effect comparisons or struggles under their weight remains the question hanging over Archetype's debut project.
The Game Awards airs December 11th, with Exodus' new gameplay trailer premiering during the show.
