It looks like Age of Empires IV will not release in 2021, despite the earlier confirmation from the devs that the aim is to release the game in 2021. Q1 2022 release window looks more likely according to the latest rumours.

Not a lot has been said about Age of Empires IV ever since the game was revealed at XO19 event last year. In fact, the developers have been completely silent as they work hard on the long-awaited real-time strategy. Back in November 2019, the devs confirmed that Age of Empires IV has been in development for 3 years and it is aiming for a 2021 release window.

However, according to the latest info from a reliable insider h0x0d we may not see Age of Empires IV in 2021. The game is currently targeting a Q1 2022 release window according to insider's sources.

This will certainly come as a major disappointment to many fans of the iconic franchise but we've been waiting for a new Age of Empires game since 2005 so a couple of more years should not hurt, especially since the scope of the project is huge and Age of Empires IV is set to introduce some major additions to the series.

Of course, it is always possible that the rumour is not true so you should most definitely take everything with a dose of scepticism until Microsoft officially comment on the matter.

Age of Empires IV is coming to PC but Microsoft also confirmed that it could be ported to Xbox consoles.
