According to Adam Isgreen, Studio Creative Director at World's Edge, the team is thinking about Age of Empires consoles port but at the moment, there is nothing to officially announce.
After many many years, we're finally getting a brand new Age of Empires game. Developed by Microsoft's new studio named World's Edge. Ever since the studio announced their project, Xbox players have been eager to find out if the Age of Empires series is finally coming to consoles.
In the most recent episode of the XboxEra podcast, Adam Isgreen, Studio Creative Director at World's Edge has shared some new details regarding a potential consoles port of Age of Empires. According to Isgreen, the team would love to bring the game to consoles but there are a couple of hurdles that are currently in their way.
The first and the biggest one is the controller, which is not ideal for real-time strategy games, unlike the mouse and keyboard. "[Mouse] is all about specific targeting input, you're clicking on specific thing, area, saying go here, do this, do that. Then we get to a controller, [which is] about driving things, most console games are about driving a thing, a person or a vehicle - you're not specifically doing things. That is a huge hurdle."
Despite this issue, the studio have think about the port but at this very moment, they do not have any official announcements to make regarding the Age of Empires consoles port. Additionally, Isgreen also snuck in a tiny Age of Mythology tease in the same answer.
"Are we thinking about it? Absolutely. Do I have anything to announce about the console version? No, but just like with the Age of Mythology thing, we hear year."
