Riot Games announced that they will be increasing the premium currency prices for League of Legends and Teamfight tactics for shaky reasons, to put it mildly.

Inflation is a significant part of any economy that impacts the lives of people all over the world. However, it hits harder with physical goods as they usually have long chains of goods and services utilised for both production and delivery. Digital goods, on the other hand, have cut most of these costs out and as such, inflation doesn't impact them the same way.

Riot Games would like you to believe otherwise apparently as that's the primary reason they cited while announcing that prices of Riot Points (RP) will go up. Considering that digital currencies, such as RP, can be printed out and delivered at almost no cost and almost instantly, this justification is questionable at the very least. It's not like Riot loads up caravans of trucks with boxes of RP and then sends them to deliver the goods to the customers, leading to massive gas spending in the process.

Anyway, RP will go up by roughly 10 per cent overall and you can check out the new conversion rates for Europe and North America

Considering the price hikes over the years, even fewer players might be inclined to purchase the currency but it's hard to imagine Riot will shed tears over the loss of paying customers as whales usually don't mind spending more.

After all, a 10 per cent increase in whale spending is more significant than a sea of smaller spenders but that also spells out Riot's priorities rather plainly.
