There have only been two international League of Legends esports competitions for several years, and Riot appears to be searching for methods to boost the number of high-stakes games with worldwide championships at stake rather than protracted regular-season matches.
According to reports by Sheep Esports Riot Games is currently preparing to hold a third international tournament in between the Winter and Spring seasons of the following year, according to Sheep Esports sources.
Sources have stated that at least one team from each major region would be invited; however, the tournament's site and format are still being finalised.
What do we know so far?
Though few specifics regarding the event are known, over the past few months, there have been increasing rumours about a new worldwide event. According to sources, certain areas might be in the process of completely restructuring their local formats in order to make room for the new event. This news is consistent with such sources.
The only thing Sheep Esports can confirm is that the LCS is looking into maybe switching to a 3-split structure, which is what the LEC does.
Although the LCK and LPL's formats are still up in the air, it's anticipated that they will alter in some way to make room for a mandatory qualification route in time for the season's opening round.
When can we expect this eSports event to take place?
Since the event is scheduled to take place between the Winter and Spring splits, it will likely happen in March or April. As a result, it is also possible that the remaining events on the regular League of Legends Esports schedule would be rescheduled, with MSI occurring beyond its current May date.
Minor regions are probably going to be at the tournament, although Sheep Esports is unable to confirm this at this time.
A Riot Games representative responded to Sheep Esports' request for comment by saying, "We plan to have an update on the 2025 LoL Esports schedule in June."
However, none of these have been confirmed, as these are merely plans, but if these do turn out to be true, then we will surely have a very busy 2025 for sure.
