Brendan Greene and Co are getting ready to dip their toes into some esports when PUBG goes into its first major esports tournament. Dubbed the PUBG Global Invitational, the esports tournament takes place in Berlin from 25-29 July 20018.

The tournament happens to be the first one officially sponsored by PUBG Corp and it shows. The company went all out and announced a prize pool of $2 million.

Of course, there won't be a single winner, especially seeing as how it's a team based competition. PUBG players will be competing in squads of four but in two parallel PUBG tournaments so to speak - one competition for third person and the other for first person view.

Entrants will be decided in play-in games that will take place across North America, Europe and Asia. There is a set number of final candidates from each region, with North America, Europe and Asia each getting three spots.

Note that Korea, China, Japan and the Commonwealth of Independent states are exempt from the previous rule, as they each get two spots. South America, Oceania and North Africa/Middle East each get one spot.

Of course, this is not the first tournament held by PUBG. You may recall their Gamescom PUBG Invitational, which drew plenty of critique for Gamescom flavoured crates. Not that it bothered the company, mind you.

Gamescom seemed to have been more of a testing-the-waters kind of deal though, especially considering the prize pool at the time was $350 thousand. Having to become a serious name in the world of esports and related competitions, it's no wonder PUBG Corp are upping their game with $2 million.

PUBG Corp's CEO Changhan Kim said that the PGI is a unique landmark for the company and marks their arrival on the esports stage. He claims the team have worked "tirelessly" on the tournament and the event will be streamed, with the company hoping to repeat Gamescom's success.

So, we guess it's safe to expect PUBG Global Invitational flavoured crates sooner rather than later.
