Pokemon Go players in Yokohama have successfully completed the Research Task challenge which resulted in Niantic unlocking the Suicune Raid Day which will commence on 17 August 2019, offering a chance to catch the legendary worldwide.
Yokohama Pokemon Go Fest proved to be successful for the players who completed all the challenges thrown at them and provided an opportunity with a new Raid Day for the entire world. It appears that Team Instinct was a bit behind the other two when it came to completing 25 million research tasks but they managed to catch up and pull their weight.
The raid will feature Suicune, a gen two legendary while the luckiest among players will have an opportunity to catch the Shiny version. Just like a Community Day, the Raid Day will kick off on a weekend, more precisely Saturday, 17 August 2019. The starting time will be 16:00 local time so no need to count the time zones.
Suicune is a Water-type Pokemon and definitely not something you should go up against alone. The best way of dealing with it is to dogpile on it with several other trainers, all using Electric-type Pokemon such as Raikou, Magnezone or Electivire.
While Suicune has a hard counter to Grass-type Pokemon that use Poison with its Extrasensory move and Ice Beam that is otherwise super effective against the type it would still be advised to use the Grass-types in Sunny weather conditions due to the massive buff it provides.
Before the Raid Day even starts, players will be able to enjoy a plethora of other bonuses. Starting on Tuesday, 13 August 2019, 1-hour Star Pieces, triple Catch and Hatch Stardusts will be enabled. Additionally, each Raid will award 3.000 Stardust.
The bonuses will expire seven days later, on 20 August 2019. It remains to be seen if Niantic will drop more events in before 15 September 2019 when Turtwig Community Day kicks off or if players will get a breather.
Overall, it's going to be a good week for Pokemon Go players who will enjoy important boosts as well as an opportunity to catch a Shiny Suicune.
