Niantic have announced that Pokemon Go Battle Showdown event kicked off and that it would feature fighting-type Pokemon. It is host to several bonuses out of which new a Shiny Machop and Mankey are arguably the most notable additions.
Battle Showdown's name already implies it but just to clear things out - the event will promote challenging team leaders and other trainers in order to gain rewards for the duration of the event.
Players will be able to level up Gym Badges, earn Stardust and flaunt their team colours in the process.
Speaking of the duration, it may look a little odd at first. The event kicked off on 05 March 2019 at 13:00 PST / 21:00 GMT and will last until 12 March 2019 13:00 PM PDT / 20:00 GMT.
At first it may seem like Europe would get one hour less of the event, but the confusion arises only because daylight savings will kick in on 10 March 2019 for USA, which is indicated with PST changing to PDT. The clock will move one hour forward so both regions will effectively have one hour less.
Players will be able to find more fighting-type Pokemon in the wild, in a somewhat similar manner to increased spawns during Community Day events. This includes Pokemon such as Mankey, Machop, Makuhita and Meditite.
To put a proverbial cherry on the Pokemon cake, lucky players will be able to find Shiny Mankey and Machop.
Shiny Machop will be green, just like its evolutions as opposed to all of them having the regular grey skin. Shiny Mankey's fur will also take on green-ish tint instead of the regular cream brown or beige, however one might perceive it.
Bonuses for Battle Showdown will include up to five rewards per day from challenging trainers and up to three daily rewards for challenging team leaders. Both can include Rare Candy. Catch, battle and raid Stardust gains will be doubled as well as experience for Gym Badges.
Fighting-style Pokemon will have a new Power-up Punch move, but it will be restricted to only a few of them. Poliwrath, Hitmonchan, Kangaskhan, Medicham and Lucario are among the viable ones.
