Josh Sawyer, Obsidian Studio Design Director, has confirmed he is working on his own project at the moment, which is not the recently announced Xbox exclusive Avowed.
Obsidian Entertainment is turning out to be a dream acquisition for Microsoft. The beloved studio are firing on all cylinders lately with the announcement of their AAA first-person RPG Avowed and the release of a smaller but very interesting and popular survival game Grounded.
On top of this, it looks like there are other projects currently in the works at Obsidian. According to Studio Design Director, Josh Sawyer, the man behind Pillars of Eternity I and II and Fallout: New Vegas, Avowed is not the only game that the studio is currently developing.
"I am directing my own project now (it's just not Avowed)," Sawyer tweeted. A couple of years ago, Sawyer hinted that he would love to create a historical RPG once his current project (Pillars of Eternity 2 at that time) is wrapped up.
It looks like Sawyer is working on that historical RPG right now but of course, this is just speculation at the moment, until we get the official confirmation.
Sawyer explained that he does not consider Pillars of Eternity to be a historical RPG in any way so you can write off that from the list of potential suspects. "I mean something set in Earth's history – inclusive with fantastic variations, like Darklands and Ars Magica," he said.
Darklands with modern graphics and RPG mechanics? Well, definitely count us in.
