Starfield is one of the big-name Xbox exclusives that is rumoured for a PlayStation 5 release sometime in the near future. Rumours about the potential port kicked off a while back, before Microsoft's Xbox strategy update where Phil Spencer and other Xbox executives announced that games like Pentiment, Hi-Fi Rush and more will be coming to other platforms.
Obviously, this was a sign to Xbox fans that other, bigger games, will follow, despite Spencer saying that not everything will be coming to Switch and PS5 in the future. Rumours about Starfield going to PS5 resurfaced again this week when it was claimed that the game would launch on Sony's console by the end of the year.
However, reliable Xbox insider and WindowsCentral journalist Jez Corden rubbished these claims, stating confidently that Starfield is not coming to PlayStation 5 anytime soon as no one is working on that at the moment.
"Since some people are asking me about the latest round of Starfield rumours, I'll say definitively: I have great sourcing that nobody is working on Starfield for PlayStation right now," Corden tweeted. "Nobody knows what the longer-term future holds, but don't expect it any time soon."
Corden added that this info is fully sourced and that neither Microsoft nor any of their studios are working on the port today.
Obviously, this can change in the future since Phil Spencer himself stated Xbox can't guarantee that a specific game won't come to other platforms at some point in a few years but it seems that there are no plans for any big ports just yet.
Some Microsoft insiders suggest that the first wave of ports is just the start and more games will be coming to other platforms in the near future to the point when even the biggest Xbox exclusives like Hellblade 2 and Gears of War could end up on PlayStation.
This would certainly be a massive shift in Xbox's strategy but would not be surprising as Sony too seem to be exploring day-and-date releases on PC. Whether the Japanese publisher decide to bring some of their titles to Xbox, that's an entirely different story.
