Monster Hunter: Rise, Capcom's adaptation of the franchise tailored for Nintendo Switch, has received a gameplay trailer on this year's The Game Awards.

Instead of attempting to port Monster Hunter: World to Switch, Capcom decided to develop Monster Hunter: Rise from scratch, and judging by the trailer - it looks like it's been the best possible decision.

It certainly brought out the creativity from Capcom's devs, whose experimentation with verticality resulted in the name Monster Hunter: Rise. You can see the results for yourself, as the trailer is pretty big on that aspect.

The trailer, which by the way has some pretty enchanting audio work, shows some of what await Switch owners once the game launches. Which, as you may know, is March 26, 2021.

Traversing Monster Hunter: Rise's map is made easier thanks to a variant of MH:W Iceborne's Clutch Claw called Wirebug, or riding your Palamute. Note that the latter helps you save stamina, although Wirebugging your way around is certainly more flashy.

Monster Hunter: Rise's trailer shows a few monsters as well, such as the sleep-inducing Somnacanth and the omnivorous trickster Bishaten. Also featured are Royal Ludroth and Great Wroggi.

Capcom's earlier Monster Hunter: Rise tease showed off Palamute, Palico and the game's character creator, which you can check out here .

The recent Capcom leak has resulted in data mining of the list of monsters, and data miner AsteriskAmpersand dug up the following ones:

  • Mizutsune
  • Lagombi
  • Khezu
  • Barioth
  • Kulu Ya-Ku
  • Tigrex
  • Rathalos
  • Anjanath
  • Barroth
  • Rajang
  • Chameleos
  • Valstrax
  • Yorogumo (new monster
  • A “weasel” (new monster)
  • “Namahage bear” (new monster)
