Torn Banner Studios is still coming up with ways to revitalise Mirage: Arcane Warfare's dwindling player numbers. The game will be free to download today, and you get to keep it too. Anyone who misses out can later get the title at a reduced price.
It's no secret that Mirage: Arcane Warfare is in a bit of a tight spot right now with its player counts. Torn Banner Studio has tried to alleviate the problem with the addition of bots a short while ago. While this might have filled up the servers somewhat, it apparently didn't really manage to fill them up with actual people.
The current idea it seems is to swell player numbers by providing a sufficient number of players with the game for free . In theory this should create a solid base of players upon which the studio could build further and ensure the project's long-term survival.
After the free day ends, players will get to keep their Steam copy of Mirage, and anyone looking to purchase one after that will be able to do so at a an asking price smaller than what it was up till now. The game will drop in price from roughly £25 to just under £10.
"Mirage launch sales were poor. That sucked, and we know it. Our company's doing fine, and we'll be able to continue to make awesome games in the future. More than anything, we're disappointed for the players who stuck by us and did buy Mirage - but who have struggled to find people to play against. We just want people to play the game we spent years making", Torn Banner have announced today.
It's good to hear that the current setback won't break the studio, but sad to see a quality game somehow failing to reach its intended audience.
"We have faith that Mirage can find a larger audience still, so we’re being aggressive about getting it into people’s hands. We think Mirage is a great game, but don’t take our word for it - we encourage you to check out press reviews before you commit to trying or buying."
If you didn't have the chance to try Mirage: Arcane Warfare for whatever reason, you can get the game for free starting at 10PM PT/ 5PM GMT/ 7PM CET. The promotion will go on for 24 hours and in case you don't feel like calculating time zones in your head, it starts about 4 hours after the timestamp on this article.
AltChar had some time with the game during beta. It's may easily be worth your time, go get it while it's free.
