It looks like Microsoft are in talks to acquire Discord in a mega deal worth over $10 billion. The American tech giant are one of the several companies interested in acquiring the chat and community platform.
According to the latest report from Bloomberg , Microsoft are just one of several companies in talks to purchase Discord, a popular chat and community platform, for a massive fee said to be in excess of $10 billion.
The report states that Discord have been in talks with potential buyers and the American tech giant is one of the interested parties but the deal is far from being finalised and there's certainly nothing imminent to be announced regarding the acquisition.
Talks between Discord and Microsoft are set to continue but Microsoft will have plenty of competition for this one as some other big companies, which have not been named in the report, are keen to wrap up the deal.
Epic Games and Amazon have been mentioned as potential buyers and there's also Tencent, one of the biggest entertainment groups in the world.
The price is also pretty substantial. Microsoft recently acquired Zenimax Media for $7.5 billion but it seems there's still plenty of money left for additional acquisitions.
Discord currently has over 300 million active users and it's the most popular chat/community platform for gamers so it's not surprising that there are many interested parties.
If Microsoft manage to acquire Discord, it's safe to expect that the company would try to connect Xbox and PC players in some way to offer even more features for potential crossplay.
