Marvel's Avengers has been delayed. The new release date is set for 4 September 2020 for all platforms - Stadia, PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. This is the second Square Enix game to be delayed today - Final Fantasy 7 Remake has also been pushed back.
Marvel's Avengers has been delayed to 4 September 2020. The developer - Crystal Dynamics - explained that they need some more time to "deliver the ultimate Avengers gaming experience".
Looks like "more time" translates to roughly four months but we're sure the fans would rather they get a highly polished experience than spend their summer waiting for patches.
The comic book-based action game was supposed to launch on 14 May 2020 for all platforms (Stadia, PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One).
In a post announcing the news on their website, Crystal Dynamics pledged to spend the additional development time on fine-tuning and polishing the final product. Since the official website is down at the time of writing, we bring you their announcement in full:
"To our fans,
At Crystal Dynamics, our ambition has always been to deliver the ultimate Avengers gaming experience. In order to achieve that goal, we have made the difficult decision to move the release date of Marvel’s Avengers to September 4, 2020.
As fans ourselves, it’s an honour and a privilege to work with these legendary characters and we know what these Super Heroes mean to us and True Believers around the world. When we set out to bring you our vision for Marvel’s Avengers, we committed to delivering an original story-driven campaign, engaging co-op, and compelling content for years to come. To that end, we will spend this additional development time focusing on fine-tuning and polishing the game to the high standards our fans expect and deserve.
The worldwide teams working on Marvel’s Avengers sincerely appreciate the support you’ve shown us. We thrive on your enthusiasm and feedback and we can’t wait to show you more. We apologize for the delay. We’re confident it will be worth the wait.

Co-Heads of Studio, Crystal Dynamics"
Marvel's Avengers isn't the only Square Enix title to be delayed today - Final Fantasy 7 Remake has also been shifted back a month from its original launch date of 3 March 2020. The delay came after significant pieces of the game leaked online leading up to its rumoured demo.
