Riot Games announced a bunch of bonuses for Game Pass holders but initially, it may not have been clear how this will work and what it will unlock.
What Riot Games content you get with Game Pass
Since all Riot Games titles are free to play, it stands to reason that you would get in-game content for your subscription instead. Riot posted the specifics of what the players can acquire by subscribing to Microsoft's service recently, allowing people to make an educated decision on subscribing.
The unlocks include:
- All League of Legends champions unlocked
- All League of Legends: Wild Rift champions unlocked
- All Valorant agents unlocked
- Foundations Set of cards for Legends of Runeterra
- Rotation of Series 1 Little Legends in Teamfight Tactics
How the unlocks work
If you already have an account and are playing any of Riot Games titles, Game Pass bonuses can be applied to them.
However, keep in mind that the benefits will stop when your subscription expires. This means that any champions or agents you haven't unlocked without the subscription will once again become unavailable.
As such, there is still a bit of confusion about any unlocks you might get for a certain character that was only available during the subscription. For example, if you don't own a League of Legends champion and then unlock them temporarily through Game Pass, it's possible you'll be able to purchase cosmetics for them with real-life currency.
After your subscription expires, you will get locked out of champions you didn't obtain regularly, which possibly means you could get locked out of cosmetics you paid for.
It's currently unknown how Riot will handle such cases, but it's quite possible they will enforce champion purchasing before getting any cosmetics for them.
