The potential of this system lies in its ability to remove disruptive players from Ranked queues and encourage positive behavioral changes, ultimately improving the League of Legends experience.

League of Legends  Ranked system has undergone significant changes in recent times, including the introduction of Emerald, extended Splits, and the removal of Promotion games, all aimed at enhancing the player experience.

However, Riot Games is taking further steps to improve Ranked play by introducing three Ranked Splits in 2024, accompanied by additional adjustments to support the shorter Splits in the future.

These changes are highly anticipated by the League of Legends community.

Ranked Lockout System: What Is It?

Riot Games previously teased the Ranked Lockout System without providing specific details. This system will penalize players with suspensions or severe chat restrictions, preventing them from participating in Ranked games. To regain access to Ranked play, affected players will need to complete five Normal games.

Riot plans to monitor this approach closely and may make adjustments based on its effectiveness. Players who receive this penalty will have faced multiple violations and issues related to their honor level.

Behavioral Changes

Actions such as feeding, leaving matches, going AFK, and exhibiting toxic behavior in chat can result in a chat ban and potentially trigger the Lockout System. Riot has not yet specified all the transgressions that could lead to a Lockout.

Preventing Smurf Accounts

Riot aims to discourage players from switching between accounts with this system. Unlike most time-based punishments, the Ranked Lockout enforces a strict number of games that players must complete before returning to Ranked play.

Riot will continue to monitor and improve the system by adding features as needed, emphasizing its remedial purpose over pure punishment.

Release Date

Riot has indicated that this feature will be implemented in a future patch, possibly Patch 13.19 or 13.20. The exact release date will depend on Riot's readiness to introduce the system and provide further details.
