In a clear example of the old adage 'one man's trash, another man's treasure', CliffyB and Boss Key's woes over LawBreakers actually helped Digital Extremes realise The Amazing Eternals are a lost cause and instead focus on Warframe.

Of course, that was barely the only reason for cancellation of The Amazing Eternals, since the climate at the time was pretty savage for developers. Looking back however, it may have been one of the most important decisions Digital Extremes have ever made.

Commenting on the issue, Digital Extremes' vice president of publishing Meridith Braun said that The Amazing Eternals "was the right game at the wrong time". According to Braun, their game was entering closed beta at the time when LawBreakers were showing signs of impending doom.

"We just saw LawBreakers not do so great, and it was a fantastic game", Braun added. Blizzard was pushing Overwatch out at the time, which helped neither Boss Key nor Digital Extremes and only complicated things further for the developers.

This left Digital Extremes in a difficult spot, having to decide whether to double down and try harder, which is pretty much what they did with Warframe when it launched, or cut their losses and move on. Note that this isn't the Warframe we know today, because it too was plagued by relatively low population at the time, especially considering the dev's initial expectations.

Thankfully, along came Plains of Eidolon, which is basically what made Warframe snowball into the bona fide miracle . "That really blew up and doubled the numbers on Warframe", Braun added, prompting Digital Extremes to pull the plug on The Amazing Eternals and instead focus solely on Warframe. And aren't we all glad they did.

Unfortunately for the other acteur of this story, CliffyB, Boss Key Productions and poor LawBreakers didn't do as well. Nexon actually made it free to play and you can download it from . Note that the game's servers will run until 14 September 2018, when Nexon will be forced to shut it down.
