NeocoreGames, the creators of The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing series have officially announced King Arthur: Knight's Tale, their brand new turn-based tactical RPG with some unique features.
The team that brought us some great RPGs such as Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor - Martyr and The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing trilogy are working on a brand new game, which they officially revealed today.
Named King Arthur: Knight's Tale, it's a turn-based RPG which takes elements from turn-based tactical games and traditional, character-centric RPGs. The devs describe it as a "modern retelling of a classic Arthurian mythology story filtered through the dark fantasy tropes, a twist on the traditional tales of chivalry".
The Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign is starting today, and you can show your support here. You probably want to take a closer look at the game before that so here's a reveal trailer, which showcases a grim setting and interesting character design:
The game will feature more than 30 heroes of 5 diverse classes and players can also combine hundreds of skills and artefacts to assemble their squad. The devs also mentioned that heroes will be the most important resource and complex gameplay element at the same time.
These heroes cannot be resurrected when dead so plan you'll have to plan your moves carefully at the Round Table.
"The character progression system is designed to be as deep as in the traditional RPGs: heroes level up on unique skill trees and the complex loot system provides unique options to fine-tune their tactical capabilities. Each hero has a distinctive personality and their loyalty is constantly changing through the decisions made by the player – in certain cases, they can ever leave the Round Table and turn against you," NeocoreGames said in the announcement.
King Arthur: Knight's Tale also features an Adventure Map, which is something we didn't get to see in many other turn-based RPGs. Here you can observe all the territory, select your missions and explore various places. You will get to rebuild Camelot with new buildings that unlock various upgrades and also offers different ways to heal up and manage the heroes of the Round Table.
As for the story, you play as Sir Mordred, the former nemesis of King Arthur and your choices in encounters will mater and have an impact on the story and morality system. NeocoreGames also promise mythic boss fights and random quests, loot, and character progression ultimately leading to the banishing of Balor, the monstrous god-king of the Fomorians himself.
King Arthur: Knight's Tale is set to release in Q1 2021 for PC via Steam, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.
