Psychological survival horror game Holstin will launch in 2027 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch and PC, with a Game Pass release also confirmed.

Psychological survival horror Holstin is coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and PC in 2027, publisher Team17 and developer Sonka announced today. Holstin will be available to play on PC via Steam, GOG and the Microsoft Store.

It’ll also be playable through Game Pass. Holstin has earned some buzz already thanks to its grim take on survival horror and its charming pixel-art visuals. Sonka has crafted an adventure game that puts players in a cursed lakeside town in Poland.

Holstin casts you as Tomasz Wolanski, a traveler who arrives at Jeziorne-Kolonia searching for your missing friend. During your time in the cursed town, you’ll need to scavenge for supplies, solve puzzles, and dodge hostile townsfolk.

Combat will still play a factor, but your character’s sanity is just as important. There are several points in the game where you’ll have to manage Tomasz’s mental state or risk permanent madness.

Expect to see faded wallpapers, scratched up microwaves, vintage ads, aged signage and buildings that feel straight out of 19th-century Poland. Sonka’s painterly pixel art will surely shine. Holstin’s cast of characters will be fully voiced in both Polish and English, too.

As you might expect from such a game, insanity will play a role in Holstin. Sonka describes the mechanic as a “fluid status effect”. That means your character will slowly lose his grip on reality as the town’s horrors become more apparent.

Its visual style is powered by Sonka’s custom engine, 2XD Rendering technology. Holstin eschews traditional fixed cameras, instead opting to let players move the camera freely and switch between multiple angles.

That, paired with real-time lighting, helps sell the adventure game’s pixel art prowess. Enemies behave differently depending on the angle you’re viewing them from, for example.
