The developer of mil-sim shooter Gray Zone Warfare today showcased 23 minutes of raw, uninterrupted gameplay footage, showcasing just one of the missions in the game that players can choose from.
We got to see a team of soldiers taking a heli ride to a large village, engaging hostiles from a distance but also in close-quarters combat before securing intel and heading to the extraction zone.
Some of the things that caught our eye include shoulder swapping, and injury effects on the player when they got hit. There are also hit animations and plenty of fantastic ambient sounds that really elevate the whole experience.
One thing we didn't quite like is the shooting sound effects which make the weapons sound a bit flat. Additionally, there seem to be no facial animations at all when characters groan while patching themselves up. But there's still plenty of time for the dev team to iron out these issues so hopefully these will be looked at before launch.
Visually, the game still looks breathtaking with lush jungles, sprawling rice fields and very detailed weapons, character models and indoors. It's safe to say that the dev team are truly pushing the Unreal Engine 5 to its limits with Gray Zone Warfare.
Gray Zone Warfare is currently scheduled to launch sometime in 2024 for PC via Steam Early Access. The console version is yet to be announced and probably does not exist at the moment as the focus is on launching the game on PC first.
In case you are not familiar with Gray Zone Warfare, it's an extraction shooter, similar to Escape From Tarkov where players take on various missions on a big map, and gather resources before eventually extracting back to their base. Obviously, the aim is realism so you can expect one-shot kills, hard recoil patterns and other immersive elements.
