When asked about the possibility of micro-transactions in their upcoming PlayStation 4 exclusive God of War, the game's director Cory Balrog has brushed off the idea and when asked again - he did the same, in no uncertain terms.

I must admit that the God of War director's words drew a smile to my face, which is probably the only time I'll smile about micro-transactions, ever. Also, how cool a surname is that?

You'd be forgiven for thinking that one of SIE Santa Monica's head honchos has given it a bit of thought and decided that God of War can be milked for a few more bucks after all, but you'd be wrong.

Namely, Gamespot contacted the company, enquiring as to the possibility for Kratos to widen his financial horizons, and get this - the official reply reads, "No. Not even a little." How hilarious is that?

Instead of turning God of War into God of War Inc., Balrog has decided to make sure the game rang true with long time fans of the franchise. God of War sees the return of protagonist Kratos, this time around with Son of God of War called Atreus.

The new God of War was supposedly reimagined and built from ground up to deliver the old thrills in a brand new package and Kratos is now wielding a Leviathan Axe.

We suppose it's back problems - it happens to all Gods of War in old age, at least according to the ancient Greek help files.

Seriously though, it's pretty refreshing seeing a good old fashioned game at the time when the goods and services aspects of modern gaming industry heavily lean onto micro-transactions.

We realise they're a great way to boost profits and perhaps even deliver better games, but don't hold it against us for being openly excited when someone finally decides to lay off them for once.
