Fallout 3 may have been suffering from the affliction called Games for Windows Live for too long but the terror is now over.

Games for Windows Live has never been a good thing for the gamers but it has persisted in tormenting them for well over a decade and managed to make several games unplayable unless you were willing to employ the services of the folks from Tortuga Bay.

This was mostly the case with Fallout 3 as well. The dead GfWL platform prevented countless players from enjoying a good ol' sip of post-apocalypse from 2008 until October 13, 2021. It was on this date that a surprise patch happened, removing the game's dependency on the long-dead service, once again letting fans hop into the Capital Wasteland for another run with the raiders, Enclave, mutants and various other interesting inhabitants of the place.

While the dependency was removed, the patch notes still suggest reinstalling the game, in case you had it on your rig at the time, probably to purge the files properly in order for the game to function as intended.

That said, Nexus Mods has a vast library of mods that will let you play Fallout 3 in all kinds of unintended ways but it will also make your day. It would really be a shame to miss out on all the fun you can have with them so make sure to give them a go after a vanilla run or two.

So long, Games for Windows Live, no one misses you.
