Subset Games are cooking up more goodies for the owners of FTL: Faster Than Light. Namely, perfectionists and others who like achievement hunting will be in for a treat soon as the game is about to get that feature on Steam.
FTL: Faster Than Light is one of those games that almost everyone liked. Steam user reviews testify to that as it has the Overwhelmingly Positive rating of 96 per cent. This is quite an achievement, considering it wasn't only a small pocket of players who reviewed it - the score was based on 38,721 user reviews at the time of writing.
Speaking of achievements, fans are about to get some. According to a tweet from the developers, Subset Games, they will be partly visible to some players while the team is working on implementing the feature but no achievements will be obtainable during this time.
However, if you saw them, the good news is that you are not hallucinating and achievements should arrive by the end of the week that started with 20 January 2020.
Adding achievements post-release wouldn't be weird in some other cases but we are talking about a seven-year delay here. Subset are aware of that but are not dissuaded by the somewhat odd timing. Then again, it's not an unworthy endeavour, especially because FTL keeps a healthy number of concurrent players to this day.
At the time of writing, there were over 1,400 people playing the single-player game which is much more than can be said for a deluge of battle royales and other multiplayer titles that wanted to milk the Games as a Service (GaaS) model.
Once again, keep in mind that you can see achievements but cannot obtain any of them yet and will not be able to do so until Subset Games specifically announce the feature is going live.
