Frostpunk, the chilly strategy warmed our hearts today as 11 Bit Studios released a lovely trailer for the upcoming expansion The Last Autumn, setting up the story of what is narratively a long-awaited moment - the origin story of the catastrophe that led to the in-game events.
"Revealing the restless events of Site 113 and its struggle to construct the generator before the freezing veil shrouds the Earth, this prequel expansion broadens the Frostpunk universe by introducing a new environment, new Books of Laws and unique technologies, and presents a range of new buildings - all of which let you shape society and the city in unconventional ways", the dev wrote.
In terms of story, Frostpunk: The Last Autumn will have you in the role of leader of Site 113, where you're in charge of building what will eventually become your best buddy in those winter nights - the generator. This version, however, is likely to throw some new challenges at you, as it's apparently still work in progress.
As you can see, gone is the frosty exterior, or more like it's yet to come, as you go through the origin story. Frostpunk: The Last Autumn brings a brand new Book of Laws to shape your society and new buildings to go with it.
The expansion will have "uncommon, steam-powered technologies", and the strategies you'll be relying on are a bit different than usual.
" As the leader of Site 113, hope for the best, but prepare for the worst. For Queen and Country!"
If you're a Season Pass owner, Frostpunk: The Last Autumn is the second DLC pack you're getting, and 11 Bit Studios promised a description of the final once The Last Autumn launches, because "the scouts of New London are currently in search of the intel about the forthcoming expansion."
