Beancounters have started with their annual updates of the money-making machine that is Fortnite and yes, it's still raining mega-money in Epic Megagames. Sensor Tower's report says that Epic made $455 million on Apple's platform in 2018.
In tune with the holiday spirit, Epic had a December to remember, raking in a hefty chunk of their annual iProfits in the final month of 2018. In fact, Apple's Fortnite enthusiasts spent as much as $69 million in the month, which amounts to 15 per cent of the game's 2018 total.
According to Sensor Tower's data, this was an 83 per cent increase from November 2018, so there was obviously more than a little Christmas cheer in the air. Fortnite's previous best month was July, four months after the game's , when Epic made $59.3 million.
At the same time, December has been Fortnite's best month since it launched on old-charger-doesn't-fit-new-phone platform. In average, Fortnite iOS players spent $1.6 million daily, although as you can see - some months did wildly better than others.
Fortnite also got a bunch of new iOS installs in December, up to 5.2 million. This is a 59 per cent increased compared to November 2018, with Sensor Tower estimating that Fortnite has 82.6 million downloads so far.
Of course, Fortnite's iOS performance is only half the story, since there are still Android figures to account for. Unfortunately, those numbers are Epic's to show, since they snubbed Google's in favour of own distribution method.
Although it seems unfair comparing Fortnite to anything at the moment, the first logical opponent has to be PUBG and the method extends to mobile as well. That's not to say PUBG Mobile has been doing bad, far from it, but ultimately it only made 22 per cent of what Fortnite managed throughout 2018.
All in all, we're sure Epic and Fortnite will be looking for at least a repeat of 2018, while the rest of us are left to wonder whether 2019 will bring anything resembling a serious Forrtnite competitor.
