Microsoft wanted cross-platform support for a while now, but at E3 2016 Sony were reluctant to go with the idea of Xbox One vs PS4 gaming. Epic Games apparently have something different in mind with their latest announcement.

Following the yesterday's that Fortnite will be coming to iOS and later Android, Epic Games have decided ti kick it up a notch and announce crossplay for Xbox One. The fact that the game was announced to feature cross-platform playing and progression between PC, PS4, Mac, iOS and Android raised some eyebrows because for some reason Xbox One was not on the list.

During an inquiry, Microsoft have confirmed they are working with Epic Games on Xbox One crossplay support for Fortnite, via . An anonymous Microsoft spokesperson said they ''have been working closely with the team at Epic Games for some time to bring this functionality to all current and future versions of Fortnite''. They have also added that ''Microsoft has long been a leading voice in encouraging the adoption of cross-platform play and the potential of connecting players across PC, mobile and all consoles''.

Xbox One is expected to have the same treatment. The feature is there to allow friends to play together across different platforms, not to involve mandatory beatings. Opt-in will also come in handy in case Fortnite suffers a PUBG-scale hacker infestation in the future. You can literally just switch them off, as hackers are pretty much PC exclusive.

Sony are the wrench in Microsoft's crossplay gears since they previously refused to enable crossplay between PS4 and Xbox One for both Rocket League and Minecraft. If Microsofts plans come to pass, Fortnite will be the first game to break Sony's crossplay barrier.
