EA's football simulator FIFA 20 has launched two weeks ago and the developer is already boasting record numbers. While it may not have sold as many physical copies as its predecessor, it sure looks like digital more than made up for it.
We're referring to the data from the UK, where FIFA 20's boxed sales dropped by 7 per cent compared to FIFA 19, but that's probably the only negative stat one can scrape up. In fact, compared to other games and considering the gradual shift to digital distribution, FIFA's drop looks like a great result.
"Since EA Sports FIFA 20 launched on EA Access and Origin Access, more players than ever are getting into the game early with over 10 million players already competing on professional pitches and futsal cages around the world", they wrote.
Thanks to all the excitement over the game, EA in a giving mood so players who log into FIFA 20 by 17 October 2019 get 8,000 Volta Coins, which can be used to customise your avatar or on other cosmetics.
EA shared some game-specific stats, such as 450 million football matches played thus far. FIFA 20 players scored 1.2 billion goals across the game's modes, and it's still just the beginning.
"FIFA Ultimate Team sees more players than ever competing in the first three weeks since launch, with over 272 million FUT games played to date. In addition, more than 138 million games have been played in Division Rivals, with players racking up wins in the FUT Champions Weekend League to become FUT Champions Verified and cement their spot on the EA SPORTS FIFA 20 Global Series Rankings on The Road to The FIFA eWorld Cup", they wrote.
