SCS Software have a combination of good and bad news for Euro Truck Simulator 2 fans, as the work on improved lighting is likely to take up the rest of 2020.
You pretty much read the bad news in the title - Iberia DLC won't be launching in 2020, for a number of factors including the pandemic, working from home and the new lighting system.
"The scope and scale of Iberia production were challenging even for a normal year, but even with over 20 map designers working full-time on the DLC, this year proved to be too much. We have found ourselves with the timelines of Iberia and the new light project colliding and realized that there was only one proper way to sort it all out", SCS wrote.
The best estimate the studio has is that Euro Truck Simulator 2's new DLC will enter closed beta in January 2021. Iberia should launch in the first quarter of 2021, or at least that's what the dev is hoping for.
As for the good news, Euro Truck Simulator 2's new lighting system looks pretty great, although the amount of work required is pretty serious.
The dev explained that pretty much every asset in the game needs to be fine-tuned again, in order to fit the new lighting system. At the same time, this explains why it was smarter to hold Iberia DLC off.
"It's an incredible amount of changes to the art, and man-years of work of our programmers to change the graphics pipeline, shaders, and tools, using all the tricks in the book so that we do not drastically increase the games' technical requirements", SCS wrote.
