SNK announced the release of The King of Fighters 2002 Unlimited Match on PlayStation 4 but it's only the cheaper, digital version that's currently available.
SNK Corporation released The King of Fighters 2002 Unlimited Match on PlayStation 4 for everyone who loves a good nostalgia shot when it comes to legacy fighting games as well as massive fighter rosters.
However, only the digital edition is available while the physical version is set to arrive at some point during spring 2021. Furthermore, the pricing on the editions is not the same since digital edition costs $14.99 / €14.99 and the physical one will be priced at $24.99 / €34.90.
The pricing is odd for two reason with the first and most obvious one being that the physical version is more or slightly less than twice the price of digital. Besides that, there is a discrepancy for European and US versions as the latter is much cheaper than the former, although the announcement didn't explain why.
Anyway, players should get plenty of bang for their buck since the game will feature a roster of 66 playable characters, graphics overhaul and redesigned abilities. Furthermore, online matches shouldn't be terrible due to the introduction of the rollback netcode but it remains to be seen how much of the fan base actually likes this approach.
As for the modes, there will be two online modes, including Rank Match which will place you on the leaderboards while the Player Match is the casual on with no ratings. On top of the regular offline modes, the Max Mode will allow players to cancel their desperation moves or go for Max 2 to be able to pull off ultimate moves easier and in a flashier fashion.
