Bungie released another blog post, updating the players with the plans the studio has for Destiny 2. Focus of this one was on Hand Cannons in general but the mass migration of 110 and 150 RPM weapons takes the spotlight.
When it comes to weapons that don't require special or heavy ammo, Destiny 2's PvP is currently dominated by 600 RPM Auto Rifles but those who opt for Hand Cannons usually go for 150 RPM ones. The reason is the Lightweight Frame that adds mobility while not suffering from major drawbacks when compared to the direct competitor, the 140 RPM archetype.
As a result, the latter is overshadowed and barely used. Come Beyond Light, Bungie will merge the Lightweight Frame Hand Cannons into the Adaptive ones. All the HCs with 150 RPM will now inherit the Adaptive traits and lose the mobility bonus from Lightweight.
Sunshot will be the sole exception and it will retain its current state. It will not suddenly become the singe option for Hand Cannon-wielding Guardians though since 140 RPM guns' range will be boosted by 20 per cent.
Meanwhile, the other underused Hand Cannon archetype, the Aggressive Frame will now have 120 RPM instead of 110. These will also have a massive range for the weapon type since damage falloff will begin with 32 meters at 100 range. As a reference, 140s will get damage falloff at 25 meters with 100 range.
With 8.4 per cent better faster fire rate, we are looking at improved TTK which may not be game-breaking itself but when you factor in damage boosters like Empowering Rift or Rampage, you need only two shots to delete a Guardian. This combo was potent already but it will be even stronger in Beyond Light.
Precision Hand Cannons will get some love as well. These guns that shoot 180 rounds per minute will have the same range as 140 RPM ones and their mag size will be increased by 37 per cent so you can actually kill two or more Guardians without reloading.
