Speaking in a recent Reddit AMA, EA's producer Jim Vessella discussed the upcoming remasters of Command and Conquer games and how the uproar over mobile game Command and Conquer: Rivals returned the franchise back to its rightful PC roots.
In case you're wondering about the man's qualifications, Vesella was on the production team for Command & Conquer 3 and Red Alert 3 and in the lead producer's seat for Kane's Wrath, so he's bound to know a thing or two, wink wink.
The man kicked off the AMA by acknowledging the community's loud outcry to bring the franchise back to PC and started measuring their pulse so to speak. This is likely to take a few weeks, since EA still seem to be at the drawing board in terms of actual development.
As you'd expect, a question of micro-transactions popped up among the first ones asked, which is completely understandable considering this is EA we're talking about. Thankfully, Vessella said in very clear terms that they will not be adding micro transactions to C&C.
That being said, a certain part of the Command & Conquer's camp seems to be interested in cosmetics, so long as they're just cosmetics. After all, EA will probably want to keep any pay-to-win shenanigans for C&C: Rivals, because mobile crowds are likely to be much more forgiving for that than the PC horde.
Many of the players are pre-emptively advising against Starcraft-ification or inclusion of MOBA elements, no matter how enticing EA may find them. The same goes for more competitive elements, as the fans are requesting the same games in an updated package, without catering to e-sports enthusiasts or anything. Naturally, there's still plenty of time until we see working prototypes, so it's probably wise to point EA in the right direction.
EA also responded to a fan who asked that if EA meddles with Command & Conquer's balancing, they should provide a separate mode that replicates the original. The company called it an interesting suggestion that they'll actually thing about.
