CD Projekt Red have officially announced that a brand new The Witcher game is in development. The game is built in Unreal Engine 5.
The Witcher fans, rejoice! The next instalment in The Witcher series of video games is in development, the developer CD Projekt Red officially announced today.
The game will be using Epic Games' Unreal Engine 5, not Red Engine, which CD Projekt Red used for previous Witcher games and Cyberpunk 2077. The game is early in development so don't expect it anytime soon.
CD Projekt Red said in the announcement that they've signed a multi-year strategic partnership with Epic covering licensing and technical development to "tailer engine for open-world experiences".
CD Projekt Red did not share many details, this is basically the only info we know about the game. There's also the teaser image which shows the Witcher medallion in snow. A hint of the game's potential snowy setting? Who knows.
Press release:
"Today’s announcement marks the first official confirmation of a new game in The Witcher series since the release of CD PROJEKT RED’s previous single-player, AAA RPG in the franchise — The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — which won a total of 250 Game of the Year awards and was later expanded upon with the Hearts of Stone and Blood & Wine add-ons.
The teaser image for the new game features a medallion, accompanied by the phrase A New Saga Begins. Beyond this initial confirmation of a new saga in The Witcher franchise, no further details — such as a development time frame or release date — were provided."
The Witcher series is one of the most beloved video game franchises of all time. Its popularity skyrocketed with the third and final game in the trilogy - The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - which is arguably one of the greatest RPGs ever made.
