CD Projekt Red say the research phase for the next Witcher game has been completed as the game moves into pre-production.
CD Projekt Red are moving forward fast with the development of the next Witcher game. After a successful research phase, the game is now officially in pre-production and has more than 100 devs working on early prototyping, storyboarding, and design.
That's quite a big number of the developers in such an early development phase which does tell a lot about the project. It does seem like the budget for the next Witcher is enormous as CD Projekt Red aim to make their biggest and most ambitious game yet.
To achieve that, they even ditched their in-house Red Engine in favour of Unreal Engine 5, Epic's game development tool, which is the most popular choice among the game developers.
The next Witcher game won't be coming anytime soon obviously since it just started development. Our guess would be 2025 or even 2026 so yeah, it will be a long wait before we even get the official name.
CD Projekt Red also have other projects in the works, but the studio is mainly focusing on their two big franchises - Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher.
They also recently acquired Digital Scapes studio and rebranded them to CD Projekt Vancouver. At the moment, CD Projekt Red have close to 1000 employees and are one of the biggest development studios in the world.
