With the launch of Borderlands 3 fast approaching, even though it can't come soon enough, Gearbox decided to show off some of the new locations you'll be visiting beyond Pandora. Behold, Promethea, the game's new and quite gorgeous planet.
You had to be living under the shiniest meat bicycle around not to have heard that Borderlands 3 is the first game in the franchise to leave the cordial, safe and homely home of Pandora. Okay, maybe just Pandora, without the adjectives, but you know what we mean.
One of those worlds is Promethea, and as you can see, it's got a more urban feel than Pandora. Which, of course, doesn't mean it lacks things to be blown to smithereens.
"Home to the Atlas corporation headquarters, Promethea is a metropolitan world covered in futuristic towers of chrome and glass", Gearbox wrote.
According to the Borderlands 3 story, a recent siege by Maliwan has transformed Promethea's urban environments to a sprawling warzone.
You'll be encountering Maliwan mechanized infantry on the streets, while sewers and back-alleys are populated by Ratches, a hybrid between rodents and insects you can see on one of the Borderlands 3 screenshots below.
At the same time, Children of the Vault are using the opportunity to bolster their lines with displaced and disgruntled citizens, which led to Atlas CEO Rhys Strongfork getting a bit desperate.
Unfortunately, Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford said that even though they're very interested in having Borderlands 3 played in cross-platform teams, this definitely won't be a feature at launch.
Nevertheless, Borderlands 3's cross-play enthusiasts still have something to hold on as Pitchford tweeted, "We are committed to supporting cross-play for Borderlands 3 with our partners as soon as practicable after launch". He didn't say when this might be though.
