We now have semi-official confirmation that the next Assassin's Creed game will be set in Egypt and carry the title 'Origins'. Boats, shields, Egypt and crocodiles are so far the only things certain about the next series entry after its year long break.

Rumours have been floating around for a few days that the next Assassin's Creed game will be called Origins and take place in Egypt. These rumours are now somewhat more substantial, with Eurogamer that these leaks are legit, through multiple of its unnamed sources.

Judging by the leaked screenshot, the next game in the Assassin's Creed series after its year long break with entries in the series proper, will feature some sort of naval combat similar to that of Black Flag. You know, the last Assassin's Creed game that dared to innovate and deviate a bit from UbiSoft's standard formula for the franchise, in a good way.

The inscription in the upper left corner of the screen reads "Assassinate the Crocodile" as the mission title, with the current objective in the mission being "Follow Shadya to Khenut's villa". We are guessing this doesn't refer to an actual crocodile. Queen Khenut is a historical figure belonging to Egypt's Old Kingdom period, so this gives us at least an approximate timeframe in which the game's events might be set.

Every major Assassin's Creed release in the past 10 years saw the light of day in the busiest annual AAA release window, so this year's title will most likely be available sometime in the two final thirds of November 2017.
