ARC Raiders developers are bringing back Cold Snap, but it’s not coming as an event this time around. Instead, it’ll join the ranks of Harvester, Hidden Bunker, Electromagnetic Storm as one of the game’s rotating map conditions.
While it was previously removed after a holiday-themed December event update, Cold Snap’s snow modifier will apparently return in ARC Raiders. Obviously snowstorms aren’t really seasonal anymore, but Embark Studios claims this resurgence will mimic sudden snowfall.
Fans were admittedly a little surprised by this announcement, considering the condition was freshly retired not too long ago.
Cold Snap Returns to Regular Rotation
Cold Snap Is Coming Back to Standard Starting 10 February, Cold Snap will return to matches as an activated ability. When triggered, Cold Snap drastically changes the battlefield, blanketing the map with snow and spawning blizzards.
Cold Snap features:
- Intense snow that limits visibility
- Blizzards that severely harm exposure
- Increased danger while scouting/extricating
These features can be fun, but were intended to create atmosphere for a holiday mode.
Cold Snap first made its debut as part of the winter fun event last year. This brought players Candleberries and new limited time challenges.When the event concluded people were fine with the map condition being removed.
Community Reaction
Because of that, people are feeling mixed emotions about its return. While some like the extra variety others feel it’s old content being recycled too quickly. People are also wondering why it’s returning for the foreseeable future.
Future Map Conditions
ARC Raiders roadmap still shows a new map condition on the way. All signs point to Toxic Swamp being next, but it could still be weeks away.For now Cold Snap will remain to bring it’s familiar chaos, even if it is a little out of place.
