Respawn Entertainment announced that Apex Legends is getting a duos mode for a limited time, starting on 5 November 2019.
Duos mode is a highly requested feature for Apex Legends and Respawn Entertainment seem to be testing the waters by adding it for a limited time in early November 2019.
While the developers certainly delivered a successful version of squads of three people, it can be only so long until players get tired of playing a single format. Respawn already fiddled with solo mode back in August 2019, in a manner similar to the - it was time-limited and some players want to have it permanently. Furthermore, solos were back at the time of writing as a part of the Halloween celebration.
Duos is still a week away but fans seem to be eager of having it as a permanent mode already, which may or may not become a thing in the future. EA did announce Apex is their new go-to shooter franchise, at least for 2020, since a new Battlefield will not pop up until at least 2021.
While the newly announced figure of 70 million players is certainly intriguing, it doesn't speak much about Apex's ability to cultivate or retain interest. As a reminder, the game took the world by storm in February 2019 and already amassed 50 million players by March 2019. It took almost eight months to get another 20 million.
Considering Respawn are obviously testing the new things, it's possible they will eventually uncover a winning formula that will reignite people's wish to play as a Legend.
